Ticket Sales and Marketing are about to begin for the 2016 Great Dickens Christmas Fair ~ New Select Day Ticketing System ~
Our 17th year at the Cow Palace!

(from Kevin Patterson)

Here is your participant preview from Kevin and the Operations and Marketing team at Red Barn Productions...

Its (finally) time for theatre style ticketing - sales begin September 6th

We are excited to announce select-day (theatre style) ticketing for the first time in the history of our events.  The Great Dickens Christmas Fair is first and foremost, a theatrical production - we just call it a Fair. In order to assure an enjoyable and comfortable experience for all attendees, we will now be providing theatre-style ticketing via Eventbrite.  This means that a limited number of tickets will be sold for each day and just like any other theatrical venue, patrons must choose their date to attend.  And some dates will sell out.

We may sell fewer tickets, but this will hopefully be offset by more balanced attendance in the future.  Overly crowded days in the past were not fun for us or for our guests.

When sales begin on Tuesday September 6th, ticket buyers will be able to "reserve" their selected day.
The Eventbrite system will make this very clear and simple.  Details will be on the Tickets page of beginning August 25th.

From September 6 to October 16th an early sale will provide our past costumers with a hefty discount of $7 off the new regular adult price of $30.  This has already been the price of the final two weekends for the past two years.  It will now be the retail price for all Fair days.  The discount will be good for the first 3 weekends only.  This will also help balance attendance and encourage availability of tickets on the final weekends.  ...There are always procrastinators.

If we sell out the regular (full-day) tickets, guests will be encouraged to come after 3PM for the "Twilight Tickets". ($18 for adults, $10 for children).   Available at the box office only.

***Participant tickets will remain only $15 and will NOT be select-day.  They will be valid any day, just as in the past.  We want to keep participant tickets flexible, and an excellent value for you and your family***

All registered participants will continue to receive 4 complimentary tickets as cast members.  These are valid the first two weekends only.

A full ticket information page will be available at August 25th.

Helping Matthew & Karen Porter

Matthew and Karen Porter have been members of our fair(e) community for many years at both the Dickens Fair and the Renaissance Pleasure Faire at Blackpoint. Matthew is a veteran chimney sweep and Karen runs our telegraph booth. What you might not have known until this week, is the Mathew is the armorer for the US Olympic Fencing Team.

The Porters had recently moved from Pacifica to Clear Lake, paid cash and gotten their new lives and business set up. Matthew rushed off to Rio, and hadn't had a chance to get their new fire insurance. He was working hard and enjoying the success of the team's medals when he got the news of the Clayton fire. At first they thought their house had been spared, but the fire changed direction and Karen barely made it out with their dogs, not even taking her purse.

Not only have they lost their home, but their livelihood as well. Rob Bradshaw set up a GoFundMe page and friends have made sure that the media has been covering the story. You can see it on all the local news outlets, and a few of the national ones, as well as various fencing websites. Here's the most recent video from our CBS local:

If your are able to donate to help them, please do so using the link below or even just share the link on social media site, every little bit helps.

Participant Discounts & Co-Promotion at Britex Fabrics!

(from Kevin Patterson)

The Great Dickens Christmas Fair and Britex Fabrics of San Francisco, will be working together to showcase the quality and beauty of costuming at the Fair, and to encourage the creation of new costumes by patrons and participants alike.  Select Dickens Fair costumes will be displayed in the Union Square Britex store windows between Halloween and the Fair's opening weekend!

We get discounts!  ...Registered Dickens Fair participants (from EITHER 2015 or '16) will receive a "one-time" 20% discount at the store.  Shop anytime between September 1 and December 31, 2016.  Discount applies to regularly priced fabrics and select notions.  One discount per participant is allowed.  To receive the discount simply bring your 2015 or 2016 gate pass and a current photo I.D.  Once you have used your discount, Britex will validate the back of your gate pass.

The discount is not available online, but please visit to view some of what's available in their amazing store.  Your discount can only be redeemed by visiting the Britex store in person (see website for directions).  Besides, the giant wall filled with hundreds of bolts of colorful fabrics is an experience not to be missed.  Local tip: best parking is at the Sutter/Stockton Garage 2.5 blocks to the North.  Enjoy!
