Healthy communities need affordable space for recreation and community gatherings… please act today to save the Cow Palace!
As you likely know by now, a bill is being considered in Sacramento (SB-281) that proposes to remove the Cow Palace from State Fairground ownership and hand it over to local developers who want to demolish it for “affordable” housing. We think this is wrong and are fighting to amend or defeat the bill.
SB-281’s authors argue that history is less important than housing, that a venue needs to be fully booked or it’s “under-utilized” and should be torn down. Setting such a precedent would put community fairgrounds across the state at risk of destruction.
We are letting our State politicians know that you don’t solve the housing crisis in California by bulldozing history. And you don’t serve the public good by taking away their celebration centers. The authors of this bill (plus your own State Legislators) need to hear from you. Visit savethecowpalace.com to learn how.
The next committee meeting in Sacramento is Tuesday April 9, and the deadline for letters to committee chair Senator Bill Dodd, D-Napa is Monday April 8 at 5 pm. Please write and make calls today!
Fear not ~ The Dickens Christmas Fair WILL have at least two more years at the Cow Palace no matter what! But NOW is the time to make calls and write letters to help save it. We value your effort in ensuring a bright future for the Fair and for the Cow Palace.
“My advice is, never do tomorrow what you can do today. Procrastination is the thief of time.”
